3. How to Use Liquid Hand Soap Most Economically

 

Most liquid hand soap manufacturers are counting on the fact that you will use them in the same way that you would use a bar of soap - that you will wet your hands first thing and then squirt on the soap. This usually results in a large portion of the soap going down the drain without effect. Here is a better way.

 

First Step: Turn on the tap, but don't wet your hands.

Second: Squirt the soap onto your dry hands and rub your hands together, rather like you were using hand creme. Focus on the finger tips to get rid of dirt underneath it.

Finally, when the soap is evenly distributed over your entire hand, put your hands under the water and wash up.

 

You will find that this method both cleans your hands better, plus saves on the cost of soap. Place a rubber O ring halfway down the pump mechinism (below the spout, above the screw cap). The pumps are designed to deliver excess soap, the O ring will make the pump stop sooner, but you still have a sufficient quantity for proper cleaning.

What difference does buying and having hand made figure skates do to your skating?

i am at a level now where my coach says that as we are spinning and jumping (learning to) getting hand made - properly fitted skates would vastley help me and improve my spins/jumps, make them easier to learn.
before i just bought skates from a skate shop, now she wants me to get hand made ones, does anybody who has these tell me how they helped them?

You're learning to spin and jump? As in, one foot spins and waltz jump? Nuh uh. Getting custom boots before you start doing advanced doubles and triples is completely overkill.

Getting custom skates really isn't going to magically improve your skating. If you're learning spins and jumps- even intermediate things like single jumps, camel spins- stock boots are perfectly fine for you. You can get properly fitted skates without buying custom. You should be fitted at a pro shop for the proper size and width, and they will help you find a boot that fits you well. Heat-molding will also help you get a custom-like fit. Many Riedell models heat-mold very well.

The only advantage to custom skates that relate to your skating is that they fit you right all over your foot and are a little more comfortable. But you can get that when you're properly fitted for skates. Getting custom skates is not going to make the learning process any easier or shorter. And the way you phrased your question sounds like you're in USFS Freestyle 1-4, which is beginning to learn a bit more advanced jumps/spins, such as scratch spin, sit spin, loop jump, etc. and you don't need custom skates for that. You can't get a custom skate, go out on the ice, and expect to land a jump that you haven't been able to land.

Also, if your feet are still growing, and if you're still advancing in levels, that just wastes a pair of custom boots since you either grow out of them or they become not stiff enough for your level. The reason why mostly skaters that are learning triples and perfecting doubles get custom skates is that usually they are old enough to stop growing AND they do not advance in levels anymore, meaning that their skate will always be stiff enough for their jumps. Then when the skate wears out, they've gotten the full use out of them.

As long as your stock boot isn't too long or wide for your foot, you're perfectly fine! Do you really want to spend $600 on a custom skate when you can buy a great stock boot for $300 that'll last you the same amount of time? There's so many varieties of skates now, it's easy to find the right stiffness and support for you.

The way your coach said 'vastly help you, improve your jumps' makes it sound like custom skates are the only way to go. Honestly, as long as your skate fits right and has the proper amount of support, it really does not make a difference.
