I know it's a long shot and eBay hasn't been much help but I'd like it to be less than $50.

you can't. sheaffer's snorkels are hard enough to find as it is, getting one for less than $50 wouldn't be possible these days. if you do finds somewhere that sells one, i wouldn't be surprised if it sold for over $150.
